Evgeny Adamov Abuses of Freedom of Speech
The Federal Justice Department of Switzerland has punished the imprisoned former Russian Atomic Energy Minister Evgeny Adamov for his unauthorized interview with Ekho Moskvy radio. Adamov has been stripped of the right to talk on the phone with his relatives.
Adamov will be allowed to use phone only after his lawyers guarantee the Swiss authorities that their client will not violate the rules of the detention center he is currently kept at. The former minister broke the regime by giving a phone interview with Russian Ekho Moskvy radio this Tuesday. He answered the questions of the press using a payphone on the ground floor of the jail. Representatives of the Swiss Federal Justice Department calls this improvised news conference “an abuse of the certain freedom of action” Russian official enjoyed at the detention center. The Swiss authorities were also upset that the former minister said in the interview that the pressure may be put on him to obtain confidential information.

The bodies of the Swiss justice now have to choose between two requests for Adamov’s extradition: the Russian or the U.S one. The former atomic energy minister agreed to the streamlined extradition to Russia but the decision can be made only after all documents provided by the U.S. and Russian prosecutors are studied by the Swiss authorities.
