Interior Ministry Promotes Militants Postmortem
Russian Interior Ministry reported September 7, 2005 complete liquidation of a big gang of militants in Chechnya, saying exactly that gang had attacked Roshni-Chu village in August. But in reality, roughly a third of the gang was destroyed, moreover, the gang’s leader Albek Bugaev is apparently in good health and fancy-free.
The search for the militants, who raided Roshni-Chu on August 14, 2005, started straight once the attack was fought back. Urus-Martanovsky, Achhoy-Martanovsky and Naursky regions were combed out simultaneously. The operation has completed, spokesmen of Russia’s Interior Ministry said yesterday, specifying the gang was liquidated - more than 30 militants were killed, six more were detained and are testifying. In addition, closer to the end of the search, the officers spotted mined graves of warlords slain in the last battle. When the mines were cleared and bodies identified, it turned out those were the bodies of Roshni-Chu’s masterminds – Doka Umarov, Kazbek Batalov and Magomed Vagapov, the ministry's spokesmen said.

But the officers in Chechnya interpret the events a bit differently, saying, at least two of three militants under the hatches were ordinary bandits, and the operation itself is far from reaching the end.
