Priz Rescue Entails Spending
Russia has spent 10 million rubles to rescue its mini-submarine AS-28 Priz, but the amount will go up to 300 million rubles when it comes to repairing the underwater detection system. The losses of the U.K. are estimated at £205,000 (around 10.5 million rubles).
Russia has spent more than 10 million rubles over the rescue mission of mini-submarine AS-28 Priz, Pacific Fleet’s Prosecutor Major General Valery Suchkov said August 11. Seven Russian sailors trapped for three days on the ocean floor in a small submarine off Russia's Pacific coast were rescued alive and well on Sunday, August 7, after a British undersea robot cut the vessel free of debris.
But the above amount is far from final. Sources in the RF Defense Ministry told Kommersant up to 300 million rubles will go to repair the underwater system of submarine detection. In addition, the damages to defense system of Russia because of unveiling the definite place of facilities' location have not been calculated yet.
British Naval Attaché Captain Jonathan Holloway announced yesterday the U.K. losses incurred over the rescue mission reached £205,000. Holloway pledged London wouldn’t claim the amount from Russia.
