Minsk Waits for Ambassador
Minsk was ready to greet a new Russian Ambassador to Belarus Dmitry Aytskov Wednesday, July 13, but had to put off the ceremonial welcome. Russian president has not yet sealed the appointment decree, Kommersant found out.
Russia’s Federation Council approved the candidature of Dmitry Aytskov, former governor of the Saratov Region, for becoming the RF Ambassador to Belarus as far back as in April. At that time, Ayatskov told Kommersant he had been offered diplomatic career by President Putin. However, the dates of Ayatsov’s arrival at Belarus are yet unclear.
Deputy Foreign Minister of Russia Grigory Karasin, who is in Minsk on official visit now, said yesterday Ayatskov won’t come to Belarus this week. Karasin preferred not to specify the reasons of delay but pointed out Ayatskov will leave for Minsk in the new term.
According to Andrey Sannikov, former deputy foreign minister of Belarus, Kremlin might have started at last to think of Ayatskov’s appointment in light of all criminal histories related to him and his wife. “No State with the self respect will appoint ambassadors such people,” Sannikov pointed out.
Dmitry Aytskov couldn’t be reached for comment starting from the mid.-April. A source close to Ayatskov told Kommersant the future ambassador is in Moscow now. He had no plans to go to Minsk July 13.
