How Khodorkovsky Will Be Spending Time In Jail
According to the court ruling, Mikhail Khodorkovsky will be sent to the minimum-security correctional labor facility.

After his arrival to the facility, Khodorkovsky will get into the regiment with normal conditions : the prisoners live in the dormitory-type buildings that look like a barracks and freely move within the building, though with the respect of the daily schedule. The monthly expenses are limited to 2,160 rubles. The prisoner can receive six medium packages, six small packages, six short-term visits (four hours each) and four long-term visits (72 hours). With permission of the correctional facility administration, the prisoner can make a telephone call, though no longer than 15 minutes each.

For good behavior, Khodorkovsky can be transferred in six months to the regiment with light conditions. Here, he can spend money without a limit, receive twice more packages and have six long-term visits. After doing one quarter of the term, he can be transferred to the correctional facility village. After completing half of the sentenced term, Khodorkovsky can apply for probation outside of the jail. In addition, the six months before the end of the term, he can be offered to live outside of the correctional facility village.

If the prisoner breaks the rules, he might end up in the hard condition regiment where people live in lockable rooms. The permitted yard walk is only 1.5 hour. The person can only spend money that he or she earned working at the correctional facility. There are only three medium packages, three small packages, two short and two long visits per year.

As a professional manager, Khodorkovsky most likely will be doing administrative jobs such as production supervisor, head of the library or similar position. His salary would be from 700 rubles to 1,500 rubles. With the permission of the correctional facility director, the prisoner might be able to engage in his or her private business (as sole proprietor or small limited corporation). However, in the real world it is not practiced much. In the best-case scenario, Khodorkovsky might end up in the art production facility where the prisoners paint pictures, carve wood, make wicker furniture and repair cars.

For good behavior, the prisoner might be awarded with a thank you note, gift, bonus, additional package or visit. Also, he or she can be permitted to spend extra money in the amount of the quarter their salary (approximately 180 rubles). The prisoner can expect a short-term vacation due to "family emergency" or yearly vacation of 28 days long.

For breaking the rules, the prisoner might receive several types of reprimand -- verbal reprimand, fine up to 200 rubles, placement in isolation, transfer to a cell-like room and transfer to a prison building.

In the majority of the correctional labor facilities of minimum security, the prison administration controls the life of the prisoner. The administration has a widespread of informant network. It is impossible to buy liquor, narcotics, to receive non-scheduled package or visit, to play cards. To receive leniency, the prisoner has to join a voluntary organization (for instance, of discipline and order) and "firmly go the way of correction."

A minority of the facilities are informally controlled by the criminals. For instance, searches are conducted quite formally, just for the show. The prisoners might avoid working, uncontrollably speaking on the cell phone, to buying liquor and so on.
