Ural Great Never Saw the Budget Money
Perm Region’s prosecutors have brought in a criminal case following the fraud with the budget funds allocated to back up Ural Great Basketball Club.
Twice champion of Russia, Ural Great was set up in 1995 based on Politekhnik team by the Perm basketball players, including Sergey Kushchenko (today’s GD at CSKA Perm Basketball Club), Vladislav Isaev, Alexander Antonov and Vladimir Martynenko. Kama Cable Works had held the stocks till 2003, then, they were transferred to the companies controlled by the Perm Region’s authorities.
Perm prosecutors initiated the criminal case on May 11. “12 million rubles were allocated from the Perm Region’s budget in late 2002 to back up Ural Great basketball club,” sources with the prosecutors said, adding now it is impossible to track where the funds went.
“It is unclear where this money has got to,” a source with the prosecutors told Kommersant on condition of anonymity. “And who is to blame - the authorities or the club,” said the source.
Ural Great BOD chairman Arkady Kats confirmed to Kommersant the prosecutors checked spending of the funds allocated for 2003/04 season.
