US Businessman Ready for Space Again
US businessman Greg Olsen resumed preparation for a space flight. Space tourist Olsen was pushed aside last year, following health problems. Olsen received medical treatment in the United States and now is quite fit to match Russia’s medical requirements.
Sensors Unlimited Inc. CEO Gregory Olsen planed to visit the International Space Station last year, quite satisfied with $20 million asked for the eight-day flight by the Federal Space Agency. He passed medical examination in early April 2004 and got down to training in the town of Zvezdy, Russia, on April 14. The flight was scheduled for October 2004.
The training in a centrifuge showed that Olsen doesn’t endure well the G-load. He left the Cosmonaut Training Center in late June.
But the 60-year old Olsen was apparently in no mood to give up. He has received medical treatment and currently is up to Russia’s medial requirements, a source with the Cosmonaut Training Center told Kommersant, declining to specify what problems Olsen actually had and what treatment he received.
Now Olsen has to undergo the four-month training to be on time for Soyuz TMA-7 launch slated for September 27. Simultaneously, his agents will make the $20-million contract with the Federal Space Agency, while the latter will agree on adding Greg Olsen to the crew of Soyuz TMA-7., which currently consists of Valery Tokarev and William Makartur.
