Rebels' Stash Points to Basaev
It became known on Sunday that a rebels' cache was found in Malgobek District in Ingushetia in which a large amount of weapons and explosives were found, including machineguns and pistols stolen in a raid by Shamil Basaev's rebels in Ingushetia last June and in an attack on the Russian Federation Service to Control Narcotics Sales in Nalchik, Kabardino-Balkaria, last December.
The cache was found by the Ingushetian department of the FSB and Ministry of the Interior in the outskirts of Malgobek District, an area where weapons stashes have been found before. Not far from the road, 24 Makarov pistols, three Kalashnikov submachine guns, a Taurus revolver, a Cedar shotgun and three homemade bombs with detonators were found. There was also a large amount of bullets, seven walkie-talkies, and a license plate from Stavropol Territory.

Kommersant has learned from law enforcement sources in Ingushetia that they were able to locate the cache thanks to information provided by an arrestee suspected of involvement in the June attacks in Ingushetia. On Sunday, police in Kabardino-Balkaria also arrested two local residents from whom material evidence was seized that indicated their involvement in the attack on the anti-drug agency. Their names have yet to be released. It is only known that one of them is a Wahhabi, and the other has no previous criminal record.

Law enforcement representatives now say that the attacks in Ingushetia and Nalchik can now be traced to a single source. They had long suspected that Basaev was behind them both.
