Safin Warms Up in Monte Carlo
Marat Safin of Russia advanced to the third round of Master Series Monte Carlo Wednesday, having easily won from Cyril Saulnier. Russia’s Nikolay Davydenko moved further after the victory over A. Costa in the second match.
Safin seems to face no difficulties in his move to the clay courts. Moreover, he actually plays at home – Safin lives in Monte Carlo. He was also lucky when seeded in the draw. After Korean Hyung-Taik Lee, whom he defeated 6-0, 7-5, Safin opposed Cyril Saulnier of France, no match for him either.

Similar to the first match, Safin was experimenting, definitely sure of himself. He won 6-3, 6-1 to meet two time Monte Carlo champion Juan Carlos Ferrero in the third round.

Nikolay Davydenko advanced to the third round after defeating Albert Costa, 30-year old tennis veteran, still extremely dangerous on the clay.
