Iran Threatens America with Hellfire
Yesterday, Iranian President Mohammad Khatami threatened to burn anyone who dared attack the Islamic Republic. During events dedicated to the 26th anniversary of the Islamic Revolution, he said that the Iranian nation is united in the face of different menaces and any invader will be destroyed with hellfire. In spite of unusually cold weather and snow, tens of thousands people gathered on Azadi Square in central Teheran. They came to listen to the President’s speech. Khatami never mentioned America as their enemy. However, demonstrators chanted “Down with America.” Washington has been trying to make Teheran quit nuclear research because of suspicions that, under the cover of work on building an atomic power station, the Iranians are developing weapons of mass destruction.
