Astrological Order
The assassination of the president of the USA, a major terrorist act in London, a new terrible disease that will destroy thousands of people, the increase of Vladimir Putin and Sergey Ivanov's popularity. This is an incomplete list of the events that the mankind is in for in the new year, according to the astrologers. And it does not actually matter if their predictions come true or not. It was earlier that astrologers simply informed people. Now they have a much wider range of tasks.
At the beginning of the year the German Paranormal Research Society checked 90 predictions taken at random that had been made by astrologers for 2004. It turned out that none of them had come true. George Bush junior has not become the victim of a terrorist act and has not lost in the elections, Los Angeles has not been destroyed by an asteroid, mushrooms have not mutated and come to parasitize on man, finally, the world has not become the object of a super-attack launched by hackers – the creators of an unusually powerful and invincible super virus. However, these failures have not told upon the reputation of the astrologers and interest in them. This is quite natural though. For a long time already astrologers have not been informing people about the events that may take place. At present they have many other functions - both obvious and quite unexpected ones at first sight.
Sociological Astrology
Apparently sociologists (the people that are doing a thorough monitoring of the public opinion) should be dependent. There exist limits on what they are allowed to do. For example, they cannot ask the citizens of Arab countries if they wish that George Bush junior should die, get a quite apparent answer to the question and then present it as the point of view of the whole world. No such limitations are known to the astrologers.
For example, the predictions of the Arab astrologer, Hassan al-Sharibi, can be considered a rather clear expression of the position taken by wide layers of the population. He predicts an attempt upon the president of the USA as a result of which one of the most hated figures by the Arab world will die. The new Palestinian leader, Mahmud Abbas, will die too. Many Arabs are prepared to view him as the betrayer of the interests of the Palestinian people because of his readiness to go for negotiations with Israel.
Arabs expect nothing good of the USA's actions in Iraq which is why al-Sharibi predicts a new scandal with the American military that will overshadow the tortures in the Baghdad Abu Graihb prison and will force the American Defense Minister, Donald Rumsfeld, to step down. Apart from that in 2005 the lives of Saddam Hussein and Osama bin Laden will cease. The former will die under obscure circumstances before the trial starts, the latter will be tracked down by the Americans and will fall in action. There will be no reconciliation between Arabs and Israelis. Moreover, the hateful Ariel Sharon will most likely lose power and the conflict between Israel and Syria (practically the only Arab country which still withstands the American-Israeli pressure) will flare up anew.
However, it is not only the Arab astrologers that can clearly reflect the sentiments of the society. The authors of the British Old Moor's Monthly Almanac most influential astrological magazine (published since 1697) predict political upheavals in Venezuela and Columbia (the countries towards which the majority of the British have a negative attitude) and terrible disasters at nuclear power plants in Russia and the USA.
Entertaining Astrology
The American astrologers are more entertaining in the best traditions of Hollywood than tracing the sentiments of the society. They have all the genres on hand – ranging from thrillers and horrors to conspiracy and scandals with the participation of celebrities.
The trial of Michael Jackson will be one of the most important events of 2005, according to astrologer Louis Turi. The trial will be full of inconceivable revelations and will end with the conviction of the singer and his immortal soul. Madonna will have problems with justice as well. Doctors will fight for the life of Arnold Schwarzenegger.
Another important event of 2005 – the final and unconditional (like in Hollywood action movies) victory of the good over the evil in the Middle East. Events will develop in the following way: one after the other Saddam Hussein, Osama bin Laden and three other prominent Arab leaders that stood in the way of reconciliation will die. The wave of terrorism that has covered the world will subside. The Middle East will cease to exist in the format, which is known to us at present. Wounds will skin over, tears will dry, and new states will appear. All this will be crowned by a global peace conference in December 2005.
As for America, events will develop according to the scenario of disaster movies and fantastic anti-Utopias. The West coast of the USA will be the object of a nuclear blow delivered by the North Korea; the whole territory of the country will be seized by war. Anti-abortionists and those against the free sale of fire-arms will take up active terrorism (25% of abortion clinics will be burnt down; the management of the companies, which produce arms, will be destroyed). Unheard of disorders will take place in New York and Los Angeles. They will entail thousands of deaths. As a result the whole existing system of maintenance of order and criminal law in the USA will be reconsidered.
Instructional Astrology
In totalitarian countries astrologers and foretellers are extremely reserved in their prognoses. They use them not for entertainment but as a starting point for sermons or criticism of authorities.
The priests of the Cuban Santeria cult (in which the beliefs of Christian slave-owners and African slaves imported to Cuba many centuries ago have mixed) regularly issue the Letter of the Year. The Letter informs about the events the world is in for. Letter-2005 promises that the year will be extremely difficult. Wars and natural cataclysms, according to the priests, are not the scariest things. The revival of the old and the appearance of new terrible infectious diseases, which can destroy a great number of people, is much more dangerous.
However, according to the priests, such terrible consequences can be avoided. The most important thing is that one should closely observe all the requirements of hygiene. “Medicine fights disease. Our advice helps to avoid the disease,” the Letter reads. The priests suggest that the Cuban authorities should right away start working on renewing the system of water supply and should take measures to improve the situation in agriculture. This (together with “frequent herbal baths, unconditional fidelity to one's spouse and caution towards guests) will defend people against miseries.
Propaganda Astrology
Judging by their statements, the Russian astrologers have for quite a while perceived themselves as the continuation of the state mass media. They persuade, assure and explain. It is of interest that the society trusts them more – the stars won't lie, will they?
First of all, it is suggested that the Russians should not yield to provocations. The history of mankind shows that the year of the Rooster is the year of mutinies and conspiracies. Khan Batyi attacked Russia in the year of the Rooster (1237), the Decembrist revolt took place in the Rooster year (1825), the Civil War in the USA began in the Rooster year (1861). Nevertheless rebels stand a poor chance of victory, according to astrologers. Once again they turn to the events of the world history, which took place in the Rooster year. In 1381, English rebel Watt Tyler was killed. In 1525, German rebel Thomas Munzer was executed. In 1849, the Petrashevtsy conspirators in Russia were smashed. Finally, both Napoleon and Hitler who plotted conspiracies with the purpose of seizing the world, were defeated in the Rooster year – 1813 and 1945.
Secondly, they call upon the Russians not to despair. Vadim Levin, one of the most famous astrologers of Russia (it is said that they give heed to Levin in the Kremlin as well), thinks that this new year is the year of consolidation and construction and that it will “put things in their places”. Newspapers quote him: “such qualities as industry, precision and planning skills will be valued” in the Rooster year. If this does not make one feel happy, there is no reason to worry. “One should not expect a quick pay-off from hard work but success will come – be assured!” says Levin.
Other astrologers remind us that the Rooster year is the year of positive changes: the abolition of serfdom (1861), the beginning of NEP (1921), the victory in the war (1945), the launch of the first satellite (1957) and finally the victory of the Soviet weapons over the Chinese aggressors on the Damansky Island (1969). With great assurance astrologer Roman Kedr says that in 2005 Russia will witness revolutionary changes in the military industry, the military reform will be activated and the military actions in Chechnya will be completed.
Thirdly, they tell the Russians that the stars predict only good for the first figures of the state whereas their opponents will have a hard time. German Gref and Mikhail Zurabov are the only exceptions. According to Roman Kedr, they will resign from the state offices. The prognosis of the “Kremlin astrologer” Vadim Levin for 2005 for the leading Russian politicians is even clearer (it was published at the site of the Higher School of Classic Astrology). If it is the power party that we are talking of, the predictions are most favorable.
Vladimir Putin is in “for a difficult year” however he will cope with the problems. Moreover, the president will finally learn English and will continue going in for sports. Dmitry Kozak is also in for a “year full of events that will abound in unexpected and even dangerous turns. However, fearless Scorpions are used to it.” Valentina Matvienko will manage to complete the majority of large-scale projects on the expansion of St.Petersburg's infrastructure. Mikhail Fradkov will make some economists-reformers resign however will keep control over the situation and will retain the office of the premier. From a parliamentary figure Boris Gryzlov will start turning into a political character of national significance. However, on this way he will face numerous difficulties and at times the misunderstanding of colleagues.
All possible favor of the stars ends when it comes to the opposition politicians. Thus, according to astrologer Levin, the “party set up by Sergey Glazyev will fail to gain the appropriate influence in the regions” and he himself might be left without support. There will be no reconciliation with the former co-workers. As for Gennady Zyuganov, for him the year will be much worse than 2004: “Struggle for supremacy against the breakaway communist faction will intensify. In the “agricultural year” of the Rooster Zyuganov should remember about his immediate Motherland… The resumption of scientific work will be fruitful. The possibility of writing a new book or monograph is worth considering.”
