United Russia Lost a Portion of Name
The country’s ruling party United Russia will lose the All-Russia’s portion of its name today. The party’s name is shortened to make it “like others.” United Russia will also shift to a new web and toughen criteria for promoting its members to the General Council.
The 10th Congress of United Russia opens today, November 20, 2008. According to the sources, the party will reduce its name, crossing the “All-Russia’s” words from it. It will be just United Russia from now on.

The reason of this action is the desire “to be like others.” All parties are all-Russia’s nowadays, as the laws ban existence of regional parties. So, the party members will have to set into motion another flow of documents and change lots of plates and signboards.

The web of United Russia will be renewed as well, shifting from edinros.ru to edro1.ru. In addition to the address, the key novelties are the forum and video-blogs. The Berloga (Bear’s Lair) section alludes to informal name of United Party members – the Bears.

Anyway, at the yesterday’s meeting, the chiefs cautioned against too playful sentiment in their work with leaders of regions, where the elections will be held in spring. The campaign won’t be easy in the environment of crisis and large-scale redundancy, the chiefs said, specifying that they won’t lower the ceiling for vote percentage.
