Tursunov Jerked from Metz
Russia's Dmitry Tursunov won the ATP Open de Moselle tournament in Metz, eastern France, with the prize fund of €370,000. It is the fifth career title of the Russian and another inspiration for the fight at the Kremlin Cup that began in Moscow.
Russia’s Nikolay Davydenko prevailed at the Kremlin Cup in the last two years. Davydenko, who won three Kremlin Cups with the 2004 triumph taken into account, has been seeded the first at this tournament and is the obvious frontrunner.
But Dmitry Tursunov might create a sort of intrigue. Tursunov defeated France's Paul-Henri Mathieu in the final match of the ATP Open de Moselle tournament in Metz Sunday (7-6, 1-6, 6-4), and he is well-known exactly for the fast cover preference. The French victory propelled Tursunov to the world’s 26th ranking, enabling him to skip six positions en route.
The strength of the women’s section at the Kremlin Cup is overwhelming. Yelena Jankovic, Ana Ivanovic, Elena Dementieva and Dinara Safina will join the tournament from the second round. Safina will face once No. 1 Amelie Mauresmo, who is not as crushing as she used to be but who may have enough power for a single big battle.
So far, the progress of the Russians has been promising. Ekaterina Makarova saw off Ukrainian Maria Koryttseva and Galina Voskoboeva defeated Tatiana Puchek of Belarus at the Kremlin Cup yesterday.
