The VIP-Management
First time in Russia’s corporate history, one of the biggest companies has acknowledged that labor conditions of its Russia’s employees were worse than nonresidents had. TNK-BP Management and its 16 top managers entered into an amicable agreement in the court, binding the company to create equal terms for all employees. But the amicable agreement was opposed by lawyers attracted by TNK-BP CEO Robert Dudley, signaling the conflict of Russia’s and Britain’s holders continues.
The Justice of Peace of Department 380 of Moscow Presnensky District completed yesterday consideration of collective lawsuit filed by 16 vice presidents and department directors of TNK-BP Management (15 of them are Russians, and one is the U.S. resident) to seek protection for their labor rights. The managers accused TNK-BP Management CEO Robert Dudley of granting benefits to nonresident employees, demanded his resignation and cancellation of document with guarantees and compensations to foreign employees.
Top managers dropped claims to Dudley, referring to the understanding memorandum signed by the holders September 4 and providing for Dudley’s dismissal by December 1. As to the labor rights, the court affirmed an amicable agreement of claimants and TNK-BP Management.
The amicable agreement invalidates the document with guarantees and compensations to nonresident employees of TNK-BP Management, which, for instance, specifies the monthly appropriation of $4,000 to $18,000 to nonresident top managers to settle the rent in Moscow, payment for the education of their children, provision of a car with personal driver, VIP-service in airports.
Russia’s top managers didn’t enjoy benefits of such extent despite holding similar offices. Under the suit, of 97 nonresidents employed with the company, 55 are top managers, i.e. 30 percent of all top managers of TNK-BP Management. “A nonresident employee of BP costs $800,000 a year, or $67,000 a month. The annual average income of nonresident top manager is 1.7 fold above the annual average income of Russia’s employee of equal level,” the suit says.
