Ad Industry Receipts a Little Known
Kommersant and Advertising Industry magazine are publishing their latest ranking of Russia’s largest media agencies by advertising purchases in 2007. Russian agencies only discuss their financial turnover, that is, the budgets of their clients, which does not make the size of their own business obvious. The main cause for changes in agencies’ positions is client movement between agencies on a local or global level.
One of the rare instances when the receipts of a Russian media agency were officially publicized occurred in 2007, when the British holding WWP bought the Russian office of Mindshare. Its receipts for 2006 were set at 186,715,000 rubles, that is, more than $7 million. According to the Kommersant – Advertising Industry rating, the agency’s turnover for that year was $186.1 million.
The French holding Publicis has revealed its receipts in Russia for the first time. They amounted to €48 million (about $66 million) in 2007. Those are the combined receipts of three Russian agencies – Starcom, MediaVest and ZenithOptimedia, combined turnover last year exceeded $923 million, four creative agencies - Leo Burnett, Publicis United, Saatchi & Saatchi and Rodnaya Rech, and the Arc marketing communications company.
Chairman of the board of the Russian ADV Group Dmitry Korobkov stated that that company’s receipts last year were close to $100 million, and its turnover $1.18 billion. Maxima advertising group regularly publishes its receipts. It is owned by the publicly held company AFK Sistema. In 2007, its receipts for its Russian, Ukrainian, Belarusian and Kazakhstan offices were $40.6 million, while its turnover exceeded $250 million.
