Norilsk Nickel Found Advisor
Norilsk Nickel has found a partial replacement for Deputy General Director Tav Morgan. Mr Adrian Coates, the Global Sector ex-chief, Resources and Energy at HSBC Bank, is engaged as the senior adviser for the corporate strategy development. Norilsk Nickel needs this top-notch expert before consolidating either with RUSAL or Metalloinvest, the analysts speculate.
Russia’s metal giant Norilsk Nickel announced past week the appointment of a new senior adviser for the corporate strategy development. The office went to Mr Adrian Coates, ex-chief of the Global Sector, Resources and Energy at HSBC Bank plc. Coates will proceed with elaborating a new corporate strategy of Norilsk Nickel, which Deputy General Director Tav Morgan was unable to complete.
Morgan quitted the company following General Director Denis Morozov, who left it after Mikhail Prokhorov sold his stake to RUSAL and Potanin’s Interros Group gained control over Norilsk Nickel. The current development strategy was endorsed in Prokhorov’s time far back in 2006.
Coates will focus on the analysis of potential global deals of Norilsk Nickel. The official has amassed solid experience in the field of merger and acquisition. When engaged with HSBC, his sector staged the M&A and London IPO for Billiton, IPO of Vedanta Resources as well as the M&A of Corus and Tata Steel and of Mittal and Arcelor. The latest big mining and metal project of HSBC is the merger of BHP Billiton and Rio Tinto.
Norilsk Nickel will need experts of Coates knowledge given its plans for Russia’s biggest metal M&A deal, which will aslo involve either RUSAL or Metalloinvest.
Meanwhile, the office of Tav Morgan is still vacant. The reason is high demands to a candidate, people in Norilsk Nickel speculate.
