War Didn’t Affect Budget
President Dmitry Medvedev chaired yesterday the meeting dedicated to draft budget for 2009 through 2011. The president emphasized the need to approach new spending liabilities with arguments and to analyze social component of the budget. The government will finally endorse the draft August 21 and the State Duma will have it by August 26.
The yesterday’s sitting at Dmitry Medvedev started by a minute of silence in memory of the victims of South Ossetia’s war. Then, the president heard the report of Vice Premier and Finance Minister Alexei Kudrin about granting aid to those who suffered in the tragedy. The reserves of cabinet will suffice to tackle with aftereffects of the conflict, Kudrin said.
When the issue of rendering financial assistance to South Ossetia was decided, the president proceeded to the highlight of the meeting – the draft budget for 2009 through 2011, which is to be submitted to the State Duma by August 26.
Medvedev proposed to make sure that the draft “corresponds to the budget message and our long-term objectives in part and in whole.” As it turned out the first objective is to have arguments when approaching new spending liabilities.
In another effort, Medvedev urged “to analyze social component” of the budget. Kudrin assured the president that the draft meets all set objectives, while Deputy Economic Development Minister Stanislav Voskresensky told Kommersant that it was “the informative meeting with no decisions made.”
