Successor 2008 Operation to Be Launched in Five Months
The successor operation, including cabinet’s removal, will be launched in five months at the longest, RBC Daily reported. It will be set into motion once the bill on three-year federal budget is forwarded to the State Duma, sources with one of the federal ministries forecasted on condition of anonymity.
The government could be forced to resign when it performs the key task of the year, i.e. elaborates the draft budget, political analyst Dmitry Oreshkin echoed the forecast of anonymous sources.
”It means they will try again the scenario masterminded by Boris Berezovsky, with the contender heading the government a year or a bit less before presidential elections to have time for promotion,” Oreshkin said.
But some analysts think different. “This is not the time for any resignations. Stability is more vital,” said Igor Nikolaev, head of the strategic analysis department at FBK. If ever, Fradkov's cabinet will resign closer to the presidential elections, Nikolaev predicted.
Putin will name his successor at the last moment, Nikolaev said. “The president’s rating is very high. If [the announcement is] put off till the very end, this rating will automatically pass to successor,” Nikolaev reasoned.
