Former Adzharia’s President Sentenced to 15 Years in Absence
The Court of Batumi has delivered an absentee judgment against Aslan Abashidze, former president of Adzharia, Interfax reported.
Abashidze, who fled from Georgia in 2004 after the conflict with central authorities, was sentenced to 15 years in absentee.

The Court found Abashidze guilty on counts of office abuse and appropriation of around $57 million, which he is to pay to Georgia.

Aslan Abashidze was added to the wanted list of Georgia in December 2005 and to the Interpol’s list in May 2006. The charges set forth “keeping firing arms, fraud, terrorism and illegal imprisonment.”
