CIS to Create United Air Defense
Russia’s Air Forces Chief Commander Vladimir Mikhailov suggests establishing three regional air defense systems in CIS, the Interfax news agency reported.
The proposal of Russia’s Air Forces chief is to set up East Europe’s, Caucasus and Central Asian Air Defense Systems to be used for Russia’s cooperation with the states that are members of the CIS United Air Defense System.
A new agreement to cooperate with Belarus in the Union State’s United Air Defense System in the western direction is being prepared for signing. Armenia is singled out for the Caucasus direction, and Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Tadjikistan and Kyrgyzstan are expected to cover the Central Asia.
Decision makers of Regional Air Defense Systems will command antiaircraft missile units and units of fighter aircraft, as well as detecting, controlling and communicating devices that will coordinate the operation of all forces available.
