Former Chief of Atomic Ministry Doesn’t Admit Guilt
Accused of fraud and office abuse, former chief of the RF Atomic Ministry Evgeny Adamov hasn’t admitted guilt today.
The Moscow Zamoskvoretsky Court met today for the first hearing on the merits of Adamov’s case. The next sitting is slated for January 17, 2007.
Adamov told the court he cannot grasp the indictment voiced by the prosecuting attorney, and therefore, doesn’t admit guilt.
Evgeny Adamov, who had been in charge of Atomic Ministry from 1998 to 2001, was arrested in Bern May of 2005 upon the demand of the U.S. Department of Justice. The latter blamed on Adamov's misappropriation of funds that the United States allocated to Russia to ensure safety of the nuclear facilities.
Adamov was extradited to Moscow December 30, 2005.
In Russia, Adamov is charged with the grand fraud of the organized criminal group and with the office abuse that led to enormous offenses.
