Case of Imperial Family Rehabilitation Back to Court
The Moscow City Court upheld the private complaint of Great Princess Maria Vladimirovna and, on January 15, sent the case on rehabilitation of the Imperial Family (Nicholas II, Alexandra, and their children) back to the Tver District Court, Interfax reported.
The Tver Court will focus again on restoring procedural time limits for appealing the award previously passed in respect of the case.

The Court will decide whether the prosecutors should restore procedural time limits for appealing against the constitutional action, said German Lukiyanov, who is the lawyer of Great Princess Maria Vladimirovna.

On December 14, 2006, the Tver Court invalidated refusal of the RF Prosecutor General Office to rehabilitate the Imperial Family and consider the complaint of Great Princess Maria Vladimirovna to deem them victims of political repressions.

But the same court terminated proceedings in part of the complaint that demanded to consider the grounds for rehabilitation, reasoning that such issue should be referred to the criminal justice.

In May of 2006, the Tver Court refused rehabilitation to the Imperial Family referring to the statement of a spokesman of the RF Prosecutor General Office, who claimed that “the death of the said persons was caused by intended killing.”

But the Panel of Cassation of the Moscow City Court reversed the judgment and returned the case to the Tver Court for another trial.
