Prokhorov’s Detention Just Curious Incident, Sarkozi Said
Detention of Russia’s billionaire Mikhail Prokhorov and a few more businessmen was just a curious incident, France’s Interior Minister Nicolas Sarkozi said, France Info reported.
The decision on further destiny of the rich Russians, including Norilsk Nickel co-owner Mikhail Prokhorov, will be taken today, Lyons’ prosecutor said, pointing out the arrest warrant was extended by 48 hours till Saturday, but the actual decision will be made January 12.
Mikhail Prokhorov was arrested January 9, 2007 on the Courchevel resort, which is very popular with the wealthy Russians. Twenty six persons were detained overall. Though most of them have been freed from restraint, Prokhorov and some others are still in the police. The Russians were arrested during the police raid targeted at arranged prostitution.
GMK Norilsk Nickel is probing into details of the incident, the company’s representative said, pointing out that the general director is on vocation and will get back to work January 15, 2007. Predictably, the official called “absurd in essence” all data related to possible charges against Prokhorov.
Mikhail Prokhorov is the general director and co-owner of GMK Norilsk Nickel. His business partner, Vladimir Potanin traditionally marks the birthday in early January in Courchevel, and the New Year-Christmas skiing tour of the Russians always becomes a key event of the society column.
