Russia to Impose Duties on Neighbor’s Food
In February, Russia may impose duties on meat, milk, TV sets and furniture imported from Belarus.
In the nearest days, the government of Russia will elaborate economic sanctions, including the duties on goods imported from Belarus. Today’s tariff rate for such product equals zero, Vedomosti reported referring to an anonymous source with the government.
In addition to sugar, on which import the duty was introduced December 29, the sanctions will probably extend to meat and by-products, milk and dairy products, TV sets and furniture, breaking the Customs Union of Russia and Belarus for a while.
At the same time, Belarus has toughened the entry procedures for Russia’s drivers. To arrive in Belarus, the individual drivers of Russia will have to get a certificate for temporarily delivery of their vehicles, Interfax announced with reference to the Customs Committee of Belarus.
The temporal introduction of sanctioning procedures for the vehicles is the retaliatory measure to the similar actions of Russia, representatives of Belarus’ Customs Committee explained. Moreover, the customs authorities of Belarus have shaped similar requirements for the vehicles registered in Russia.
