The Serbians to Rebuild Sochi Airport
Moscow Arbitration has sustained the choice of the general contractor to rebuild Sochi airport. It will be Serbian Putevi, RIA Novosti reported.
In September 2006, Russia’s Federal Air Transport Agency called Putevi the successful bidder for Sochi airport’s rebuilding. The other bidders were Russia’s Transstroy, Yugaerostroy and Austrian Strabag. Exactly the Austrian company went to the law to challenge the tender results, of no avail though.

The Sochi airport is one of the biggest airports of southern Russia, annually servicing more than 8,000 flights of over 120 airlines. Its owner is Strategia-Yug, which bought out 100 percent in the airport in 2006. Strategia-Yug is affiliated with Oleg Deripaska’s Bazovy Element (Basic Element).

Russia’s Railways (RZD) will extend the railway up to the airport. It will be laid on expectations to service the Adler Olympic Village of 2014 Winter Olympics and run along the Sochi highway.

Today’s concern of Sochi is to become the host city for 2014 Winter Olympics. The federal budget will appropriate $8 billion to develop the city’s infrastructure. In this undertaking, the federal authorities will be backed up by private business that stands ready to funnel money into construction.
