Russia Wants Names of States Hindering Probe Into Hariri Murder
Russia’s UN Ambassador Vitaly Churkin is resolved to find out what states have refused to cooperate with the UN Investigation Commission into assassination of former Lebanese Prime Minister Rafik Hariri.
On Tuesday, Vitaly Churkin, who took over the UN Security Council in January, called on the Serge Brammertz, the commissioner of the UN International Independent Investigation Commission into assassination of Rafik Hariri, to name the states refusing to cooperate in investigation, AFP announced.

When reporting to the Security Council the progress in the investigation in mid.-December, Brammertz said the Commission made inquiries to 60 states, but got no response whatsoever from 20, including ten members of the UN Security Council.

Though not all member states of the Security Council have backed up Churkin’s initiative, Russia’s ambassador vowed to raise the issue again while chairing the Security Council.

Former Lebanese Prime Minister Rafik Hariri was killed in Beirut February 14, 2005 by explosion of the car parked en route of his motorcade. A great many in Lebanon blame the murder on secret services of Syria.
