Russia’s Stock Markets Slumped First Trading Day
The stock markets of Russia opened down Tuesday. Russia’s Trading System (RTS) sank 3.24 percent vs. December 29, 2006 to below 1,860 as of 11:00 a.m. January 9, 2007. MICEX fell 3.89 percent to 1,627.
Of interest is that the RTS benchmark closed at the record 1,921.9 on December 29, 2006, which was the last trading day of the past year. MICEX stood at 1,693.
On RTS, the better part of blue chips with the oils and energy companies as the slump leaders went down on negative movement of world crude prices registered from early January. But Rostelecom soared 1.31 percent despite the general market decline.
Crude futures lost 22 cents to $56.09 on NYMEX yesterday. February futures for Brent sank 5 cents to $55.6 per a bbl on London ICE.
