Moscow Mayor Steps In to Arrange Maskaev- Klitschko Unifier
Moscow Mayor Yury Luzhkov has spoken in support of the unification bout between boxing heavyweight kings Oleg Maskaev of Russia and Wladimir Klitschko of Ukraine. The respective talks are in full swing, the mandatory challengers nominated for both boxers notwithstanding.
Moscow Mayor Yury Luzhkov has expressed his support to the intention of Maskaev’s promoter Dennis Rappaport to arrange a unification fight of his client with Klitschko in Moscow, boxingconfindential.com reported. The bout could be held April 21, 2007 at Olimpiisky Stadium of the city.

According to Rappaport, he has reached the necessary understanding with Klitschko’s managers Bernd Bonte and Shelly Finkel. But the key hurdle is still the WBC, which belt Maskaev bears. WBC’s mandatory challenger for the Russian is Samuel Peter of Nigeria.

Rappaport hopes to win the WBC’s sanction for the voluntary unification with Klitschko also because this super fight will be very profitable in terms of money in addition to the big attraction. The boxers will share $10 million once all expenses are settled, the promoter calculated.

Ray Austin of the U.S. is the mandatory challenger for Wladimir Klitschko, who is the IBF champ now.
