Arrest of YUKOS Swiss Accounts Pronounced Legal
June 9, Moscow City Court pronounced legal the account arrest of the former head of YUKOS Mikhail Khodorkovsky and other figurants of the so called YUKOS case – Platon Lebedev, Leonid Nevzelin and Vladimir Dubov in the Swiss Bank Credit Agricole Indosuez (Suisse) SA (Geneva).
Therefore, the appeal submitted by the lawyers to Basmanny court of Moscow on March 12 was rejected. Earlier on May 27, Moscow City Court confirmed the legality of the arrest of the accounts of the persons mentioned above. The blocked accounts amount to about $5 billion and were placed in four Swiss banks: Banque Indosuez (Geneva), Dresdner Bank (Switzerland) SA (Geneva), CBG Compagnic Bancaire Geneve (Geneva). According to lawyer Genrikh Padva, now the material about the arrest of the Swiss accounts will be directed to Switzerland, where local court will make the final decision independently.
Official spokesperson for the Russian General Prosecutor's Office Natalya Vishnyakova said the arrested accounts were not the company's property, but the money stolen from the government assets.
