President Putin in Mexico
June 8, Russian President Vladimir Putin’s first head-of-state visit to Mexico ended on Tuesday.
The two major oil producing nations shared knowledge on oil exploration and the energy sector. They also discussed measures against drug trafficking, international security issues and the role of the United Nations.
According to Mexican government officials, Mr. Putin’s visit was aimed to boost Russian-Mexican trade ties. The Mexican government offered Russia a number of joint projects in the military industry, transport and building. “Our countries boast great experience and knowledge in petrochemistry, electric energy, natural gas processing and use. Today Mexico is searching for the best ways to invest into its gas sphere. It can offer productive cooperation with Russia,” President Fox said.
Mexican and Russian officials signed agreements on the extradition of convicts, the evasion of double taxation, interbank cooperation and cultural affairs.
After his visit to Mexico Putin left for the 30th annual economic summit in Sea Island, Ga., of the world’s seven richest industrial countries and Russia.
