Beslan Bloodshed Planned as Suicide
Russia’s Federation Council’s commission that investigated the Beslan bloodshed unveiled its final report, RIA Novosti announced. The masterminds of 2004 school hostage-taking in the southern Russian town of Beslan were Aslan Maskhadov, Shamil Basaev and Arabian mercenary Abu Dzeit, all of them killed later on in the operations of special forces.
Khuchbarov (the Colonel) led militants in Beslan bloodshed, which had been initially planned as a suicide terror act, Interfax quoted as saying Alexander Torshin, chairman of Russia’s legislators’ commission.
The report of the commission blames the terror act on the absence of proper control over execution of orders of the RF Interior Ministry. “The actions to protect public peace and safety of residents on the Day of Knowledge, September 1, had been arranged formally,” the report said.
Magomed Khashiev had also participated in staging that terrorist attack on the children, according to Torshin. “31 terrorists, who captured the school, were killed. The only one alive is Nurpashi Kulaev sentenced to life imprisonment,” Torshin emphasized.
On September 1, 2004, a group of militants took hostages the children of Beslan school and their parents; the death toll reached 333 people, including 186 children.
