Kyrgyz Govt Surrenders Office
The government of Kyrgyzstan will hand in the resignation, Kyrgyz Prime Minister Felix Kulov told his cabinet today, Reuters reported. The government that was formed after the Tulip Revolution of 2005 is surrendering the office in line with the new Constitution, the prime minister made clear.
“The government has handed in the resignation to speed up new parliamentary elections,” the prime minister emphasized. As there are no grounds for president’s resignation, the president should stay, Kulov said, adding that only the cabinet and the parliament are to be reelected.
Kyrgyz parliament gave the go-ahead to the new Constitution after the rallies that hit Kyrgyzstan in November threatening to create prerequisites for a new revolution there. The new Constitution narrows the president’s authority, making the parliament more powerful at the same time. The party victorious at the parliamentary elections will form a new cabinet, the Constitution says.
