Six Nations Resume Talks on North Korea’s Nuclear Program
The six nations resumed talks on North Korea’s nuclear program Monday morning in Beijing.
Envoys from North Korea, Russia, the United States, South Korea, China and Japan resumed the talks on North Korea’s nuclear program after a pause of 13 months. The break was initiated by North Korea that was displeased with financial restrictions imposed by the United States.

Then, the nuclear test performed by North Korea to rattle the region October 9, 2006 questioned the mere possibility of returning to negotiations.

The U.N. Security Council responded to the test by imposing sanctions against North Korea, specifying, however, that the sanctions could be lifted should the country resume the six-nation talks on its nuclear program. North Korea agreed to continue October 31, 2006.
