Russia’s Investigators Ready to Uncover the Plot Around Litvinenko
The Crime Detection Department of Russia’s Interior Ministry is ready to join the probe into poisoning murder of FSB former officer Alexander Litvinenko, Alexander Kshevitsky from the Crime Detection Department of Interior Ministry said as quoted by Interfax. The detection services aren’t involved in investigation yet, but they are ready to step in, should the official request be provided, Kshevitsky pointed out.
Some time before, Russia’s Prosecutor General’s Office opened the criminal case re: Alexander Litvinenko’s murder and Dmitry Kovtun’s attempted murder. Scotland Yard detectives are in Moscow now attending interrogations of Russia’s witnesses.

The probe into Litvinenko’s case extended from Britain to Russia and Germany. German investigators brought in a criminal action against Kovtun on suspected illegal delivery of radioactive substances to the country.

Poisoned by radioactive polonium-210, Alexander Litvinenko died November 23 in a London hospital. Before being admitted to hospital, Litvinenko met with Russian businessmen Andrey Lugovoy and Dmitry Kovtun and Italian security adviser Mario Scaramella.

People close to Litvinenko blamed his death on the secret services of Russia. Moscow denies any involvement in the incident.
