Bush to Ask for $100 Bln in Addition for Iraq, Afghanistan
U.S. President George W. Bush will probably seek $100 billion in addition for wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, said the report shaped by the Democrat staffers.
The Congress had allocated $379 billion for the war in Iraq, said staffers of Appropriations Committee and of Budget Committee of the House. As much as $70 billion had been appropriated for the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan this fiscal year that began October 1, Reuters reported.
"The administration is expected to submit an additional request early next year that will total roughly $100 billion; at least three-quarters of this request will support operations in Iraq," the report of Democrat staffers said.
Democrats got majority in both houses of the Congress by results of the interim elections of November 2006. Even though many of them call for the prompt withdrawal of American troops from Iraq, the leaders have signaled already that they will approve additional funding. If sanctioned by the Congress, the extra $100 billion would add to Pentagon's record budget of $447 billion allocated for this fiscal year.
Most of high-rank officers of Pentagon share the views of senior Democrats. During the recent meeting with president, the better part of them backed up George Bush in his intention to step up funding and provision to the U.S. troops in Iraq and a great many said the war in Iraq could end by victory.
