Kyrgyz President Orders to Revise Status of U.S. Military
Kyrgyz President Kurmanbek Bakiev has committed Foreign Ministry to revise the agreement on the Ganci air base of the U.S. in part of the status of the U.S. military.
”It would be more reasonable if the military that are on the soil of the republic would be liable for illegal actions under the laws of Kyrgyzstan,” Kyrgyz President Bakiev said. Now the employees of Ganci air base have diplomatic immunity.

Bakiev made this statement once a citizen of Kyrgyzstan, Alexander Ivanov, was shot to death December 6 on Ganci base, which is located on the soil of Manas airport near Kyrgyz capital Bishkek.

A driver of the fuel truck in Manas airport, Ivanov, was shot dead at the check point of the air base, said Interior Ministry of Kyrgyzstan. According to the United States, the driver was aggressive and drew a knife, threatening the military at the check point.

Kyrgyz Interior Ministry initiated a criminal case, which progress is supervised by Bakiev. Moreover, Bakiev made clear to the U.S. Ambassador Mari Yovanovich that the serviceman, who had shot the driver, should stay in the country till the end of investigation.
