Tajikistan – Russia’s Friend
Tajik president considers Russia to be Dushanbe’s strategic partner, because Russia gave support to the republic during its difficult years, said incumbent Tajik President Emomali Rakhmonov at a voting station on Monday.
There have been no abrupt changes in relations with Russia during the last 15 years. Tajikistan has been a strategic ally and partner for great Russia,” Rakhmonov said.

Tajikistan is to have presidential election on Monday. Rakhmonov and four other candidates will run for presidency.

Rakhmonov said: “We have never changed our foreign policy on Russia all those years.” “The only great power, Russia, stood near Tajikistan all those 90s [the 1990s, the civil war in Tajikistan],” he added.

Emomali Rakhmonov believes that “Russia plays a great role not only for the safety and peace of Tajikistan, but of the Central Asia on the whole, and in the world”.
