Koptsev to Spend 16 Years with Prison’s Psychiatrist
The Moscow City Court sentenced Alexander Koptsev to 16 years in prison. Moreover, Koptsev, who was found guilty in stirring up national and religious hatred and in attempted murder, will have to undergo the psychiatric treatment at place of detention, i.e. in a colony with strict regime, RIA Novosti reported.
Alexander Koptsev attacked a Moscow synagogue (Bolshaya Bronnaya St.) January 11, 2006. He had a knife and wounded nine people that day.
In March 2006, Koptsev was condemned to 13 years in prison for attempted murder but the prosecutors found that judgment too soft and appealed against it. As a result, the Supreme Court annulled the verdict and the case was returned for a new trial.
Nowadays, prosecutors and lawyers of the injured party appear quite satisfied with the 16-year sentence passed on Koptsev. But the convict’s lawyers stand ready to discuss with him whether to go to the Supreme Court of Russia against the award.
