Naftogaz May Go to Law against Gazprom Spokesman
Gas thievery accusations hurled by Gazprom spokesman Sergey Kupriyanov in respect of Ukraine are unfounded and groundless, Naftogaz Ukrainy CEO Alexey Ivchenko told the 5th TV Channel of Ukraine, the Echo of Moscow reports. The biased statements have not been confirmed by facts, while the word "thievery" could be considered as a cause to go to law, Ivchenko specified.
Ukrainian Foreign Ministry has forwarded a note of protest to its Russia's counterpart in the wake of the statements made by some spokesmen of Gazprom, Ivchenko said.
Russia and Ukraine struck a five-year gas supply deal January 4 after a bruising pricing dispute, in which Gazprom shut the pipe for Ukraine, shipping only the transit gas via its territory. In response, Ukraine set to illegally drawing the gas, Moscow claimed, hitting supplies to European consumers. On January 1, Ukraine curtailed European deliveries by 100 million cubic meters worth $25 million dollars, Gazprom spokesmen announced.
Ivchenko's statement was careless, Kupriyanov said, adding Gazprom has never repudiated its words but views this issue in particular and the conflict in general settled as of to-date.
