13,000 Muslims of Russia to Make Hadj to Mecca, Medina
As much as 13,000 Muslims of Russia will make a sacred journey to Mecca and Medina this year, 3,000 more compared to a year earlier, Interfax quoted Rushan Abbyasov, head of foreign department at the Council of Muftis of Russia, as saying. No problems have arisen in time of granting visas to Russia’s pilgrims, Abbyasov pointed out.
Most Muslims head for Mecca from the North Caucasus, especially from Dagestan and Ingushetia. In terms of persons longing for a hadj, those two countries are followed by Tatarstan, Bashkiria and Moscow. For instance, 79 pilgrims from the Spiritual Muslims Department of the European Russia will make a charter flight from Moscow to Saudi Arabia on December 26.
