Aeroflot No Longer Flies with 737-Boeings
May 24, OAO Aeroflot – Russian Airlines returned the last Boeing-737-400 it had in its fleet to the leasing company on Sunday, a company representative reported.
Aeroflot has by now received 14 foreign planes, including just one Boeing-767-300ER (end of August 2003), seven А-319 and six А-320 (starting October 2003). The airline has also decommissioned 16 liners, including six А-310-300 and ten Boeing- 737-400 liners.
According to the fleet restructuring program, Aeroflot is going to commission 21 foreign airplanes in 2003-2004, including three А-321 liners, which will be used for such directions as London, Paris, Frankfurt, Madrid and Milan.
Overall, there will be 27 foreign liners in the company’s fleet after the restructuring program is implemented. This figure conforms to the quota allotted to Aeroflot for duty-free import to the RF.
Aeroflot expects the company will save $90 million a year due to running costs reduction and a lower leasing pay. In particular, Aeroflot leasing payments for foreign airplanes are making $150-160 million now. After the restructuring of its fleet, these payments will decrease to $40 million, which can be explained by favorable conditions at the international airplane leasing market.
Aeroflot is now using 25 different passenger planes of foreign manufacture, including two Boeing-777-200ER liners, five Boeing-767-300ER, and five A-310-300, seven А-319 and six А-320 of Airbus company. Besides, by the data as mid May 2004, the company’s fleet comprises thirteen Тu-134 (including one leasehold), twenty-four Тu-154 (including four leasehold), five IL-62 (including four leasehold and one set for utilization), fourteen IL-86 (of which only four can fly), six IL-96. Aeroflot has also four foreign DC-10 cargo liners.
