Maria Sharapova Named Player of the Year
Wimbledon champion and third seed Maria Sharapova of Russia received three awards Tuesday night at the Stars for Stars award ceremony of Sony Ericsson WTA, Miami. Similar awards were granted to world No. 1 Roger Federer, winner of 11 tournaments in 2004.
Sharapova won the Sony Ericsson WTA Tour Player of the Year and was picked up by the WTATour.com users as their Fans' Favorite. Moreover, the media voted her as the Most Improved Player of 2004.
Sharapova won Wimbledon and WTA final championship last year. The Sony Ericsson WTA Tour’s Diamond Aces Award went to Anastasia Myskina of Russia, winner of Rolan Garrose.
