Sberbank to Pay ˆ34.5 Million to Those Suffered in the WW2
Russian savings bank Sberbank and state-run Foundation of Mutual Understanding and Reconciliation will be paying from March 18, 2005 the regular tranche of material aid due to those suffered from the national socialism in the WW2, Sberbank announced. The funds are allocated by the German Memory, Responsibility & Future Foundation.
It will be the third tranche paid under the final stage of material aid settlement, which commenced October 11, 2004. The money is due to more than 56,000 residents of Russia, former involuntary employees of the Third Reich (farming and private households). Moreover, the aid will be allocated to 5,500 legal successors of the Nazism victims. The major portion will go to residents of the Leningrad, Pskov, Novgorod Regions and St. Petersburg. The amount exceeds ˆ34.5 million.
