Germany and EU will Help Regulate Chechen Conflict
December 21, RF President Vladimir Putin began a visit to Germany on Monday by saying he was open to opinions of Germany and the EU on Chechnya conflict and ways to solve it.
During negotiations with Chancellor Gerhard Schroeder, Putin said that Germany’s suggestions on its participation in solving the problems in Chechnya were “carefully analyzed” in Moscow. “We would like to accept these proposals fully,” Putin said.
Putin also promised a “big Christmas present” to the Germans by offering to speed up Russia’s debt repayment to Germany. Western creditors have been putting pressure on Moscow to repay its Cold War-era debts to ease their budget deficits.
Putin and Schroeder also touched the subject of Yuganskneftegaz. According to the representative of BDI Association spokesman Oliver Wieck, the fate of YUKOS is interesting to German entrepreneurs, because they want Russia to become attractive for the investors.
