Lawyers Demand Release of Russian Detainees in Qatar
April 27, Lawyers of the Russian citizens detained in Qatar on suspicion of complicacy in Zelimkhan Yandarbiev’s murder stated that their arrest had been illegal and demanded to release them from custody.
One of the lawyers, a legal expert of “Egorov, Puginsky, Afanasev and Partners” Dmitry Afanasev explained that the Russian citizens had been arrested at the territory of a diplomatic residence. According to Vienna Convention, signed by Qatari Emirat, this kind of activity is prohibited. Russian lawyers believe that according to international regulations the Russian citizens must be delivered to Russia’s ambassador.
Moreover, according to Vienna Convention, Qatari officials must withdraw all the materials they got while searching the diplomatic residence from the legal procedure.
