France Invests ˆ230 Million in Russian Plane
November 16, A memorandum to support the foundation of a new Russian-French RRJ regional airplane has been signed in Paris, RIA Novosti news agency reports.
The document was signed at the latest session of the Russian-French Council on Economic, Financial, Industrial and Trade Cooperation. Sergey Naryshkin, Russian cochairman of the Council, said that the memorandum foresees the allotment by the French of ˆ230 million to finance the development of an SM146 engine for regional RRJ airplanes. He said that, in 2003, when the program began financing, 77 million rubles were allotted from the Russian federal budget.
The design of the engine of a joint undertaking between Power Jet, which was founded by the Russian Saturn scientific production unit, and the French company Snecma Moteurs. They will develop and produce SM146 turbo-jet engines to equip the plane with. They plan to receive certification for the SM146 in Russia, Western Europe and the United States by 2007.
