Khodorkovsky Brought to Court Again
April 23, Mikhail Khodorkovsky has been brought to Basmanny Court of Moscow, which is to examine the question of limiting the period for the lawyers to study materials of the criminal case on April 23.
At present, the jury is deciding whether it will examine the question of time constraints for insight into the case publicly, RIA Novosti reports.
Let us remind you that it was Prosecutor General’s Office, which applied for limiting terms of case study for the lawyers.
Vasily Shakhnovsky, Yukos-Moscow ex-head also arrived at the court.
Prosecutor Valery Lakhtin said at a court session Friday that Mr. Khodorkovsky and his lawyers were “protracting” the study of the case. The indictee and his lawyers began studying the 227-volume case November 25, 2003. As of April 20, Mr. Khodorkovsky had read 209 volumes, and his lawyers 1-109 volumes, RIA Novosti reports.
The former Yukos head in turn said that he did not care about the deadline for the case study. “Whether it is today or in a month, nothing will change," RIA Novosti quotes Khodorkovksy as saying. However, Khodorkovksy believes the phrase that “he is protracting the study of the case” affects his reputation.
The Prosecutor's Office is accusing Mr. Khodorkovsky on seven articles of the Russian Criminal Code. In particular, fraud, deliberate refusal to implement the court ruling and also tax evasion.
Mr. Khodorkovsky has pleaded not guilty on all these points of indictment. On November 3, 2003 he resigned from the post of Yukos CEO.
