Abramovich Wants to Resettle Chukotka Residents
April 8, The Governor of Chukotka Roman Abramovich believes his main priority is Chukotka residents’ resettlement to other regions of Russia , vice-governor of the region, Vasily Maksimov, declared in his interview to Echo of Moscow (Ekho Moskvy) Radio Station on April 7.
Vasily Maksimov believes that this can be explained by the fact that in the Soviet times Chukotka was developing exclusively in terms of defense industry while the population was servicing the military objects.
Moreover, vice-governor noted that Chukotka was not the place to be called comfortable for living. He believes aboriginal population and minimum maintenance staff might remain, while the rest should be resettled.
