Basaev and Al-Walid Get about $10 Million from Al-Qaeda
April 8, Shamil Basaev and Abu Al-Walid got nearly $10 million from their foreign sponsors recently, the regional operational staff for controlling the counter terrorist operation in the North Caucasus reports.
These sponsors are the foreign extremist organizations such as Brother Moslems, Al-Haramein, and the Center For Fighting Infidels, linked to Al-Qaeda international terrorist net, RIA Novosti reports. This report is spread with reference to evidence, given by bandits and leaders of illegal armed formations, who were detained or turned themselves in to the law-enforcement agencies in Chechnya.
Moreover, according to spokesmen of North Caucasus counter terrorist headquarters a large part of this money never got to Chechnya but was “invested by the separatist leaders, who had been living abroad, as well as Basaev and Al-Walid, into their own business enterprises through their relatives and friends.
However, about $500,000 out of the $10-million sum were still delivered to Chechnya. This amount apparently includes $400,000 in counterfeit bills, the report notes, but even this money will never get to the rank and file and will be appropriated by heads of the gangs.
