Operation to Capture Maskhadov is Under Way in Chechnya
April 7, Russia’s special law-enforcement divisions are conducting an operation aimed at capturing Ichkeria’s “president” Alsan Maskhadov .
According to army headquarters’ spokesmen, Maskhadov is presumably in Vedensky village or Nozhai-Yurt district.
In west Chechnya – in Urus-Martanovsky and Achkhoi-Martanovsky district the military are conducting a special operation to detain Maskhadov’s man Doka Umarov, who has announced himself successor to annihilated Gelaev.
Maskhadov is being searched by a mountain group of federal forces and “Vostok” battalion under command of Sulim Yamadaev. The headquarters spokesmen note that Maskhadov has only two ways out: either to leave Chechnya or to turn himself in to law enforcement. If the latter happens, he is to claim criminal responsibility for arranging armed mutiny and other crimes, ITAR-TASS reports.
